URGENT - H1N1 UPDATE

November 3, 2009

Dear Parents, Students and Staff:

On Friday, November 6th, we will be vaccinating all students (who have consents) with the H1N1 flu vaccine.  The Health Department is sending five nurses out to administer the vaccine.

We have been informed today that it will not be the vaccine in shot form, but instead will be the live vaccine via nasal spray.

In addition to informing you of this change, we need to know if this changes your consent.  Please read more about the H1N1 nasal spray vaccine here.  You can read more about the H1N1 inactivated "flu shot" here.

In order for your child/ren to be inoculated against the H1N1 virus this Friday, we need to have your consent to the live vaccine.  Please print out a copy of the consent form here.

If you have not given your consent but would like or need to amend your earlier consent, you may give your consent by sending in a note to the office, by responding to this email, or by coming into the school and resigning a consent form.  Per the Health Department, we are unable to receive consents verbally.

If we do not hear back from you, even if you have previously consented on the original vaccine in shot form consent, your child/ren will not be able to be vaccinated with the H1N1 live vaccine.

If your child has documented health issues (i.e. asthma, heart conditions, lung conditions, etc., it must be documented on their school application) that state that they are unable to receive the live virus, they will be able to receive the original H1N1 vaccine in shot form.  There is a very limited supply of this type of vaccine and the Health Department has informed us that it will not be made available to any child/ren other than those with documented health issues, that preclude getting the live vaccine.
