St. Xavier Catholic School students celebrated Veteran’s Day by inviting local veterans, both active duty and retired, to the school to speak to students about their experiences in the Armed Forces. Students listened with interest and were able to ask questions after each speaker’s presentation.

In addition, a Veteran’s Day Ceremony was held in Bradley Gymnasium honoring living and deceased veterans. Presentation of the colors, followed by the National Anthem played by the school band, and the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Student Council President, Alex Davis, were conducted. Principal, Mrs. Rhonda Millard, led the invocation.

Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Rodney Case, introduced special guests, who in turn stated their branch of service and period served. Veterans and military members currently serving who were seated in the audience were asked to stand and be recognized as well as their spouses and children.

A brief history of Veteran’s Day was read by freshman, Adam Whitaker.

Mrs. Maggie Corlett, kindergarten teacher, introduced guest speaker, Retired Army Major Jim Klotz, who spoke to students, faculty, and guests about the importance of the day. Principals, Mrs. Lori Balderrama and Mrs. Rhonda Millard, as well as students, presented honored guests with letters of appreciation for their dedication and loyal service to our country. The ceremony concluded with freshman, Brennan Booth playing “Taps”.
